Massive Catch-Up Needed

Hello again! Finally remembered my password for this Blog, so lets catch up…

Second Assignment I was in the group with Corey, Luis and Ashe, however Ashe had left University at this point, so we were a 3 personed group.

We had to create an informative presentation about Soap Operas (:D), this was brilliant as I knew Soap Operas well having previously studied them in Media Studies at College.

I was happy to accept the role of Researcher, and began looking at what topics were to controversial for soaps to discuss.

Overall, our presentation was successful, sadly I was unable to attend the presentation display due to illness, yet I had feedback from the class and heard it was successful :)

The third project was to create a magazine…

I was paired up with Jemma, Katie and Kate :)

As I was still absent from Illness I was introduced to the group at the very first meeting, I was Production and Dissemination, which meant I had to create the magazine which was to be around the theme of Harry Potter. This was a struggle as I was not too familiar with the Harry Potter brand, only the basics.

Overall, the magazine was unique. Only a few of the other groups had done film based magazines, and even those were not specifically about one brand.

The final project :’(, I was paired up with Monica, Becky and Jess :D.

We instantly came up with the campaign about Staying Aware, especially after the recent attack in Winchester. We had our first group meeting, which went successful, and the group had created a page on facebook, and a private group on facebook for us to contact each other easily with updates and ideas.

My role for this project was Content Creator, which meant I had to take the research done by Becky and produce the information for Jess.

We have our next meeting tomorrow, hopefully it all goes well.

I should have updated my blog more recently, however I have been overwhelmed with first assignments among other things.

In the last session of Manipulating Media we were assigned groups for the first assignment, entitled “The Value of Education”. In my group are Laura, Hannah, Ashe and myself. We were then allowed to assign ourselves different positions within the group. We all decided that I would be Project Manager, Ashe would be Researcher, Laura would be Content and Creation whilst Hannah would be Presentation and Dissemination. The assignment required us to “produce a short video promoting the value of going to university (after the fee rise)”.

We set about as a group swapping contact details and finding out when everyone was free to meet. We had a few issues with this with conflicting timetables and part-time work commitments. Being Project Manager, I was in charge of maintaining the progress of the project, booking appointments with our tutor, and creating a brief with evidence of the assignment.

Our first tutor meeting with Justine went well, at this rate we were set on an idea for the project, however we were still in the midst of doing the research. Justine suggested creating deadlines which would allow the other members of the team to have some sort of “structure” to the creation of the project. As soon as I was informed of this suggestion I created the deadlines and emailed them to the other girls.

At first Ashe struggled with the research, more specifically, the analysing of the charts and figures that she had gathered. I offered her some assistance with this task and managed to help her analyse them correctly. After she had completed the research before the deadline that I set, she then emailed her research onto Laura.

We then had our second meeting with Justine, and overall, she stated that we were doing well, however we just needed to begin filming within the week. Laura then organised a meeting on the next day, however, I had prior working commitments. They had the meeting, in which the script was created and informed me of the progress that was made.

This evening we were filming the first scene. We used Nick, Sam and Alex (Friends of the girls) in this scene. It went well, however, we had a few set backs. We originally wanted to film in the Terrace Bar, however when I went to ask if we needed permission, they informed us that we had to give them 48 hours notice, and have a written brief explaining what we would be doing. We decided to change location and film in the Media Editing Suite in the Cafe corner. After a few takes we finally got the final shot.

Tomorrow, the girls are meeting in Ashe’s flat to film the remaining two scenes. I am unable to attend these due to prior commitments in the morning, and work in the evening. However, they have assured me that they will keep me updated with the progress, and pitfalls from the day.

The Second Post…

So this week has been an eventful one.

Finally heard back from HP about my laptop, and I should be getting it back any day now. (SO EXCITED!) I also had a much needed catch-up with my best friend.

So anyway, this week I have basically been attending my lectures/seminars anticipating my first assignment grade. So far I am unaware of what I have achieved. I also was notified that YouMeAtSix (Favourite Band!) had released a new single/music video which I am now obsessed with. My housemates are happy it’s no longer One Direction!

Back to the intended topic of this blog, Manipulating Media; It’s the last lesson tomorrow, 7 weeks have gone extremely quickly. It’s been a good module to be on, and I have enjoyed participating in this module as well as meeting other students who are also on the course.

I am currently enrolled in Manipulating Media at Winchester University.

I have been asked to set up a blog which I have to update once a week, this is my first post.

I decided to take the Manipulating Media course as I am interested in media as a subject. So far it has been an enjoyable experience, and I am glad that I was enrolled into the module.

I previously studied Media at Godalming College, I studied this for two years and throughally enjoyed the course. I feel that the subject as a whole interested me hence why I decided to take it up at university, alongside Media, I also studied Film which I also enjoyed lots. Through my studies at college for part of my coursework I had to develop a full magazine with articles and images which I primarily created myself.

After university I am dedicated to getting a job in the media and film industry. I intend to do some more work experience within the media industry, as I previously did work experience at Blue Star Media (A small company in my village of Witley). After the work experience, I am hoping that it will aid me in my hopes of working in the industry.

I am hoping that the tutors at Winchester University will remember me for my dedication and creativity towards the subject.
